What is the point of the British putting up with the hardship of much higher taxes when other larger Countries such as China are doing nothing. It's like a drop in the ocean & we with our high taxes cannot afford it.
but shouldnt we be an example to these countries? many people i know in my neighbourhood drive to work everyday and even use their cars to go to the local shop to buy a bottle of wine, when they could actually just walk! This isn't amerca, there is no need to drive around as much as we do, and if yoy do need to drive then why not try and use a car that doesn't pollute, sometimes i think people don't realise that saving the environment isnt some madeup concept from the government, it is what is causing the rain outside in summer and warmer winters!
Yet again its a question of taxing before alternatives. If successive governments had used road tax for green issues and improving transport fine but they never have and now they are saying we have to pay more. I was lucky enough to get tickets for the live 8 concert but when I tried to get public transport from Manchester to London (2 big cities) I would have had to have left mid way through the concert to get home so I drove. Two major Cities and no decent public transport to suit the customer.
I THINK THAT ALL THESE SO CALLED GREEN TAXES ARE STEALTH TAXES. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE WILL DRIVE LESS. DO MANY PEOPLE GO DRIVING FOR PLEASURE NOWADAYS?. SURELY MOST PEOPLE ARE DRIVING THROUGH NECESSITY BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO GET FROM A TO B. PUBLIC TRANSPORT IS A JOKE. IT'S INCONVENIENT, UNRELIABLE AND TOO EXPENSIVE. I ALSO THINK THAT ROAD FUND LICENCE SHOULD BE INCPORPORATED IN THE COST OF FUEL. THAT WAY EVERYBODY WOULD PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE DEPENDING ON HOW MANY MILES THEY WERE TRAVELLING, AND WOULD ALSO MAKE THE ROAD TAX DODGERS PAY UP.
IF THIS IS GENUINELY A GREEN TAX, THEN WILL ALL THE EXTRA REVENUE BE USED TOWARDS FIGHTING POLLUTION OR WILL IT GO INTO THE GOVERNMENT COFFERS TO BE USED FOR OTHER THINGS. THERE LIES THE ANSWER AS TO WHETHER OR NOT IT IS GREEN OR MEAN.
If all the tax was on the cost of fuel the cars doing the most mileage & causing the most pollution would pay the most tax. This is only fair. Also the thousands of drivers who do not pay their tax would be caught thus saving the police, courts & DVLA many million's. It is so simple.
Gordon has lost the plot.please go and let us have our country back.
sack all current MP's and put in MP's who represent all the people of GB
We are in charge. On your knees, and off with their heads.
Surely this increase is going to encourage people to ditch older cars in favour of new ones - how green is that? It would be better to discourage people from buying new cars as the production process is hardly carbon-neutral. I have always bought older cars in the interests of recycling. I get 30/40 miles to the gallon which I don't consider gas-guzzling. If this government was serious about being green it would be enforcing water-recycling on manufacturing companies, turning off street lights at night, like they used to, and insisting that offices turn their lights off too. And investing in public transport - the last bus from Basingstoke to Alton is 5.45pm.
In a nutshell public transport is awful.
How many bus passes do you need to cover all the different bus companies.
How many times do the rail companies say we need to charge higher fares to invest in infrastructure only to pay out a nice dividend to the shareholder.
The motorist gets battered time and time again.
I am waiting for fresh air tax. It's something we all need and can't stop using. Government can tax it saying we are using too much knowing full well we can't cut down on it. I hope Gordon Brown and his cronies aren't reading this, still the M.P.s will be o.k. they will get an allowance and then tell us how they are one of us and they feel our pain too.
if you think of it, with the governments payrise & all their home improvements, etc they have got to get the money from somewhere, so why not hard working fools like us.
The working persons 1 luxury now is their car, most cannot afford to drink or smoke due to the taxes imposed, holidays abroad are turning into another luxury so only the motorists remain to target, yet again.
But to punish people for choices that they made years ago is really the last straw, if they were to do it on all new vehicles at least you would be making a conscious choice knowing the tax implications.
Between my MOT of 2007 and the one for 2008 I did 3000 miles. Yes I have a fairly large vehicle, shock horror one of those 4 x 4's which I need for carrying goods etc. Can the government really expect me to believe that I am polluting the atmosphere more than a rep (no offence to reps) who travels somewhere in the region of 20,000 a year? What about the MP's 'large' cars? Are they now going to drive around in Fiestas? Oh no I very much doubt it. I also expect their expenses will have to go up to cover the extra cost of fuel and road tax etc and guess who will be funding the increase in expenses? It's the same old same old the general public can't do anything about it so we get hit everytime. Most of us NEED our vehicles to get to work or for work, what are we supposed to do carry all our tools and equipment on our backs and tell a customer who lives say 50 miles away 'well it will take me about a week to walk to you so I will have to charge you for an extra weeks work'. It is becoming rediculous it seems the more a person tries to better themselves the more the government try and knock they back by charging higher and higher taxes etc. No wonder so many folk are on the dole, what incentive is there to get off the dole?
We have to
a) get out of the EU
b) half the number of MP's
That way we can keep a closer check on them. It is they who need Big Brother breathing down their necks not us. That way we can ultimately have more control of our own way of life rather than be dictated to by former Trotskyites!
